Emperor Qianlong visited the mountain on one of his trips to the south and left dozens of poems praising the mountain’s beauty in his famous calligraphy. At the southern foot of Tianping Mountain, over 170 maple trees, some of which stand over 30 meters high, planted during the Ming Dynasty produce a spectacular scene in late autumn.
We will have a walk around the mountain’s lake area, enjoy the view and after lunch, we will go to Mudu, an ancient water town with a history more than 2,500 years old. Mudu is named after wood (mu) and rivers (du) and is full of culture and historical stories.
There, we will visit Yan's Family Garden, Hongyin Shanfang, a place where Qianlong Emperor stayed 6 times when he came to Suzhou, the former residence of Shen Shou, the "Queen of Embroidery", and a museum that displays imperial decrees and introductions to the imperial examination system.
In the end, we will also enjoy a traditional boat ride around the watertown.
