Suzhou is quite the destination when it comes to shopping for pearls. In China, it doesn’t take too long before you realize that pearl vendors are ubiquitous, particularly around famous city attractions.
There are several buildings spread out over the market, and together they house hundreds of small booths that represent different companies who make their business in pearls.
Prices are extremely low. In fact, they are so low that they will not bargain. You’ll find pearls of all shapes and sizes at the market, and if you like, you can even ask the vendors to custom make some pearl accessories for you.
Today, we will meet the best vendor at the market who will teach us about the different quality of pearls, and learn how to tell if the pearls on sale are “fake.” Apart from the market trip, we will also see and learn about the process of pearl harvesting at the nearby farm.
