Full and winter is the prime season for watching migratory birds on Chongming Island and the Dongtan Wetland Bird Watching Festival begins in late October and lasts through early April.
Around 3 million birds of 265 species spend the winter on scenic Chongming, stopping on their way from Siberia to the Southern Hemisphere. So far, around 150 species have been spotted. They include cranes, hooded cranes, swans, geese, white spoonbills, black-faced spoonbills, tufted ducks and shorebirds of many kinds.
This time we will follow a winding plank walkway, it takes us through marshes and across the water, where we can see wetlands on both sides. There are man-made hills, lawns, waterfalls, streams and gardens, including more than 186 types of trees and plants.
It is an opportunity for us to appreciate birds and the natural environment as we walk on planks through the marshes or stand at viewing stations with telescopes and binoculars.
Note that you can bring your own binoculars and there are strict rules: No bright-colored clothes and no feeding the birds.

Program is 8hrs. Guide will meet you at your hotel. Kindly note, food cost is not included in this price (these costs are usually minimal), it makes the tour more flexible and you can get the chance to try different kind of genuine Chinese food. Our guides are always happy to recommend. Note that the guide will join you for meals and we ask that you pay for the guide.
